According to the NOPD, the toddler was found alone at the intersection of Chef Menteur Highway and Wilson Drive. The following investigation led to NOPD Special Victims Section Child Abuse Unit detectives identifying Makayla Ryan as a suspect in the case and detaining her on one count of falsifying a police report.
Detectives have now also reportedly identified a vehicle, described as a newer model Ford Transit, as a vehicle of interest in this case. It is believed that the van was used in connection to the incident, and detectives are looking to question its owner or operator.
Anyone with information about the case can call the NOPD Special Victims Division Child Abuse Unit at 504-658-5267 or Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans at 504-822-1111.
