NOPD working trio of car crimes with similarities
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department is working three similar cases that involve either a car burglary or theft. The cases are the latest ones to roll on the Wheel of Justice.
The first case happened on Tuesday, Aug. 13 in the 6300 block of Memphis Street in Lakeview. Security camera footage shows a white, four-door car roll down the street while a group of thieves smashed the window on a pickup truck. According to police, the interior of the truck was ransacked, but the burglars didn’t take anything.

The next case happened a few days later on Aug. 18 near the corner of Tulane Avenue and South Solomon Street in Mid-City. In the surveillance video provided by police for this case, a four-door car similar to the Aug. 13 case is seen arriving at the scene around 2:45 in the morning, although it’s hard to tell if the car is white or another light color. In this case, according to the NOPD, the thieves also exited the car and smashed the windows of a Mercedes and an SUV. A .40 Smith and Wesson pistol was among the items taken.
The most recent case happened around 2:20 in the morning on Aug. 26 in the 1500 block of North Roman Street in the Esplanade Ridge neighborhood. Security camera footage from this scene shows, again, a white four-door car arrive at the scene and a team of thieves converging on a gray 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe. After working for around five minutes, the thieves drive away in their white car as ell of the gray Hyundai.
While there are similarities in the cases, the NOPD has not stated that any of them are connected.
