North Baton Rouge residents want city to help keep street clean, pick up trash and limbs
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Residents on Washington Avenue in North Baton Rouge say they’ve been constantly reaching out to the mayor’s office to address the lack of city services in their neighborhood.
Resident Tyrone Thomas said he and his neighbors have contacted the office almost every week for three weeks.
Neighbors said from the beginning of their street to the end, there are constant piles of dead tree limbs and trash. They said the piles had been sitting in the same spot for a while.
“Trash down the street been down there a good month and a half. You know, because I’ve been monitoring the neighborhood,” said Thomas.
He said he’s been living in the area for 13 and a half years and it has always looked this way.
“It’s a shame that you gotta open your door to a disaster because that’s what it is,” said Thomas.
He said he contacted the mayor’s office and called 311, a resource for Baton Rouge residents to request services and report issues. Thomas said if the city provided the neighborhood trashcans like other areas, the problem might stop.
“If they brought us trash cans and then put it on each corner. You know, I’m pretty sure the people will pass there and put it in the trashcan, all I’m asking them to do is come out here and clean it up” he said.
BRProud reached out to the mayor’s office for a response. They said they have not only received his request but requests from other residents as well. The mayor’s office said they are aware of the issue and are doing their best to fix it.
