Oakland, San Jose among cities to break temperature records Tuesday

(KRON) — Tuesday’s heat wave was felt across the Bay Area, and Wednesday is expected to be even hotter. Multiple Bay Area cities set temperature records for the July 2 date, the National Weather Service announced.

Five Bay Area cities either set or broke temperature records that have stood for at least 20 years on this date.

• San Jose: 102 degrees*

  • Previous record: 102 in 1970

• San Rafael: 103 degrees

  • Previous record: 101 in 1991

• Kentfield: 103 degrees

  • Previous record: 101 in 1991

• Santa Rosa: 105 degrees

  • Previous record: 103 in 1970

• Oakland: 90 degrees

  • Previous record: 89 in 2001

The heat wave is expected to last for several days.

4th of July heatwave is ‘exceptionally dangerous situation,’ NWS warns

The NWS warned that much of the Bay Area will be in an “exceptionally dangerous situation.” Inland temperatures are expected to range from the upper 90s to near 110 degrees. Some will be in “major to extreme risk” of heat-related illnesses.

The extreme heat has led to multiple wildfires that have broken out in the Bay Area — some of which led to temporary evacuation orders. One was the Toll Fire in Napa County, and the other was the Denverton Fire in Solano County.
