Final day for tax-free shopping in Ohio
(WJW) – Tax-free shopping continues this week in Ohio but not for much longer.
The 2024 expanded Sales Tax Holiday kicked off at 12 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30, and runs through 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8.

This year the tax exemption also extends to dining in at a restaurant, albeit with certain conditions.
What items are eligible?
The holiday will allow families to make tax-free purchases in-person or online on eligible items up to $500.
Anything under $500 is eligible, except for watercraft, outboard motors, motor vehicles, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, vapor products or marijuana products.
The list now includes food consumed at a restaurant, according to the Department of Taxation website — but not takeout. Each menu item must be less than $500. A total check can be more than $500, but so long as each item is below $500, the entire check will be tax-free, the department explained.

That covers even the $144 Wagyu strip steak at Marble Room in downtown Cleveland, recently named the most expensive restaurant in Ohio.
As mentioned above, alcohol is not tax-exempt.
The previous sales tax holiday included only school-related items with a $75 limit.
