Ohio State Highway Patrol: Escaped patient with ‘violent tendencies’ apprehended

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio (WJW) — State authorities peacefully apprehended a “dangerous” patient of Northcoast Behavioral Health Center in Northfield who had escaped custody on Wednesday.
Yusef Antwine Dejarnette, 46, had been transported to a medical appointment at 14055 Cedar Road in South Euclid, but during the visit, Dejarnette escaped on foot, according to a Wednesday news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

An arrest warrant was issued.
Patrol investigators followed leads that led to Dejarnette’s “peaceful apprehension” on Wednesday evening, according to an update just after 7:35 p.m. The incident remains under investigation.

The alert categorized Dejarnette as a “dangerous” escapee with “violent tendencies.”
Dejarnette in 2002 was accused of shooting multiple people at random with a .380-caliber pistol in Cleveland Heights and Beachwood, while riding a bicycle, Cuyahoga County court records show.
He was indicted on numerous counts of attempted aggravated murder and felonious assault, but was found not competent to stand trial due to his “psychotic and delusional state of mind,” county court records show.
He was found not guilty by reason of insanity in 2003 and ordered to be hospitalized, county court records show.
