One dead after crashing into tree near State Line Road in Kansas City
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Police Department is investigating after one person died in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning near the state line.
According to KCPD, at about 1:40 a.m., officers with the Prairie Village Police Department attempted to stop a Chevrolet Malibu for a traffic violation.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the Chevy refused to stop for officers and started speeding eastbound on 63rd Street, near the area of State Line Road. The crash report said that Prairie Village officers did not chase the driver.

While near the state line, the Chevy continued speeding before crossing the border into Missouri.
The car then drove eastbound across a grassy median, hitting a tree on the west side of 62nd Street.
KCPD said, “The Chevrolet then vaulted/launched totally across 62nd Street, striking a large tree which caused the vehicle to disintegrate before coming to rest.”
According to officers, the driver of the car was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was ejected.
KCPD confirmed they died on the scene, causing this to be fatal crash #64 compared to #61 at this time last year.
