According to the Louisiana State Police, troopers started investigating a two-car crash shortly before 1 a.m.
The crash reportedly killed 36-year-old Brittany Rawson of Elberta, Alabama, and seriously injured 42-year-old Andre Fontana, who was driving the vehicle, a 2014 BMW X1, when it crashed into the back of a Freightliner trailer.
Troopers say Rawson was not wearing a seatbelt when the crash happened and was brought to a hospital where she later died from her injuries. Fontana was also not wearing a seatbelt and was also taken to a hospital for treatment.
Toxicology samples have been taken from both Fontana and the driver of the Freightliner for analysis during the ongoing investigation.
