Operator of popular Kansas City food truck killed in early morning shooting
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A large street party in the early morning hours lead to early morning violence.
Kansas City police say gunfire at Prospect Avenue and Gregory Boulevard left seven people shot, including the operator of a popular food truck, who was killed.
Dyamund Shields, 31, was identified as the victim. Shields operated the popular Chicken and Mac & Cheese food truck. His friends who spoke to FOX4 don’t believe he was targeted.
A police officer on the scene said he believed there were as many as a thousand people at that street party, and these weekly Sunday night gatherings often stretch for multiple city blocks.

Neighbors complain the parties are loud and partygoers regularly leave litter on the streets. Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas told a metro radio station no permit has been issued for the large gathering.
Tearful friends looked on as the Chicken and Mac & Cheese food truck was towed away from the scene on Monday morning.
A police officer said as many as 90 shell casings were recovered at the scene, and the incident started when two partiers argued, leading multiple people in the crowd to draw their guns.
“You can’t just hang out anymore. You can’t just have a good time thinking everything is going to go alright,” Desmound Logan, who operates a nearby business, said.
Logan said he’s known Shields since he was a kid, and he’s heartbroken over his murder. Logan said he believes trouble stems when young people come to the area for the parties. Logan said he’d passed through the area near Prospect and Gregory earlier in the evening before the violence broke out.
“To see him get killed right here in this area is sad. It’s really sad. We all know around here he was not the intended target. But if there was a secure area for the food trucks to be, we’d have never had this. We’d have never had this,” Logan said.

People living near Prospect Avenue complain the big crowds are noisy and they leave litter behind. Roxanne Carr said she was concerned trouble might rise from these gatherings.
“If they had some kind of a no loitering curfew past nine o’clock on Sunday night — because there’s a lot of people who wait for the bus there, but they’re not loitering. They’re waiting for the bus,” Carr said.
Lucas compared this incident to last year’s unlicensed party at 57th and Prospect, where three people were killed. The mayor said he wants this situation addressed by city leaders.
