Oprah Winfrey to Host Livestream Rally for Kamala Harris

Fresh from her surprise appearance at the Democratic National Convention, Oprah Winfrey is holding a large livestream next week to rally support for Kamala Harris.

The event, dubbed “Unite for America,” is billed as a chance for pro-Harris affinity groups — Win With Black Women, Cat Ladies for Kamala, Win With Black Men, White Dudes for Harris, Swifties for Kamala, etc. — to gather under one banner.

Winfrey will host about 400 voters in person on Sept. 19 and livestream the event on platforms including YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, Twitch and Instagram.

“The event will serve as a call to action to work in communities throughout battleground states to register people to vote and build support in advance of November 5th,” the organizers stated in a press release.

Many celebrities have already participated in Zoom fundraisers for Harris, which are designed to galvanize supporters to take concrete steps to help the campaign.

Amid the pandemic in 2020, Winfrey conducted a similar virtual town hall series, entitled “OWN Your Vote.”

Joe Biden made a guest appearance on one of her livestreams in late October, which was aimed at turning out the vote in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Minnesota and Ohio.

Winfrey was a key early endorser for former President Obama in his Democratic primary against Hillary Clinton in 2007-08. At the convention last month, Winfrey said she is a registered independent who has always “voted my values.”

“So I’m calling on all you independents and all you undecideds,” she said. “You know I’m telling you the truth: that values and character matter most of all, in leadership and in life… And more than anything —you know this is true — that decency and respect are on the ballot in 2024.”
