Organizers get ready for Spiedie Fest weekend

(WIVT/WBGH) – Large crowds are expected at Spiedie Fest this weekend, especially for the musician with the number one song in the US the past three weeks.

Vendors are already setting up in Otsiningo Park today which is closed to the public in preparation for our area’s biggest annual outdoor festival.

It’s the 40th anniversary of the Spiedie Fest and Balloon Rally, which combines spiedies and fair food with hot air balloon launches and big-time musical acts.

This year, the concert area has been greatly expanded and just in time.

Tomorrow night’s lineup includes Shaboozey. The singer songwriters hit Bar Song Tipsy is taking the country by storm.

“Come early on Friday. That concert’s going to be huge with Shaboozey and Niko Moon. Shaboozey will go right on at 7. Don’t expect to get here at 6:30 and be able to get down there in time. So, get here early,” said Pessagno.

So, you may need to slip out of work a little early tomorrow.

The gates open and the shuttle buses from SUNY Broome start running at 3:30.

Saturday’s concert is country superstar Chris Young and Sunday features country singer Justin Moore.

Plus, all of the other Spiedie Fest activities people have grown to love including the Binghamton Rotary Cool Car and Truck Show, the Kelly LaBare 5K run, the volleyball tournament and the event that started it all, the spiedie cooking contest emceed by yours truly. And some limited midway rides are returning this year, along with Circus Stella and the Wild World of Animals.

And don’t forget about the Xcite wrestling ring and a special meet and greet with champion female wrestler Trish Stratus.

Pessagno recommends people stay plenty hydrated during this weekend’s heat and take advantage of BC Transit buses set up as cooling stations in the park.

Time is running out to get the discounted weekend concert pass at SpiedieFest.com or at local Mirabito Convenience Stores.
