New Orleans’ Audubon Zoo welcomes two new baby golden lion tamarins
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Aug. 2 is Golden Lion Tamarin Day, and the Audubon Zoo has two new reasons to celebrate.
According to the Audubon Zoo, two golden lion tamarins born on Leap Year Day can now be seen alongside their parents in a new exhibit.

The baby golden lion tamarins are named “Skips” and “Hops” after their unique birthday.
Golden Lion Tamarin Day is celebrated each year on Aug. 2 to raise awareness for the endangered species.
‘Critically endangered’ chicks hatch at Audubon Zoo
The Audubon Zoo reports golden lion tamarins are one of the most threatened primates in the world and are only found in small parts of coastal rainforests in Brazil.
Guests can say hello to Skips and Hops, as well as the rest of their family in a new glass-front enclosure in the “World of Primates.”
