New Orleans’ Carrollton neighbors frustrated following two days without power

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Two days following Hurricane Francine, the sounds of generators rang in New Orleans’ Carrollton neighborhood.

“I just happen to be sharing my generator, and we’re having to refill our gas tank, and it’s becoming expensive, not only for me, but for my neighbors,” said homeowner Janice Brown, who lost power the night of the storm.

Some neighbors who don’t have generators sit outside their home for the breeze.

“I went through Hurricane Katrina. I went through Rita, and I, when I was a little girl, went through Betsy and all, and I have never seen things being like it is now,” said Alberta Augustus, who was without power Friday.

Entergy Louisiana, Cleco update estimated power restoration timeline

Entergy officials say safety is their number one priority, followed by customer satisfaction.

“More than 300,000 customers lost electric service when Hurricane Francine moved across southeast Louisiana,” explained Michelle Bourg, Entergy’s customer service vice president. “For customers who are still without power, please be assured that our team is utilizing every tool at our disposal to bring you back to service.”

One homeowner says what’s more frustrating than the power outage is that Entergy’s app shows she has power when she doesn’t.

“We keep getting changes about when the power is going to come back on, and we still don’t have power as of today, which is Friday, but the app does say we should get power back Saturday by 10 p.m.,” said Brown.

According to Bourg, their outage map reflects up-to-the-minute information, but have been made aware of some delays.

“If any of our customers have a concern that perhaps we’re not reflecting accurately the status of their electric service, we encourage all our customers to go ahead and report the outage via the app or by calling 1-800-ENTERGY,” Bourg said.

Some believe power restoration may take more personnel.

“I personally think that we need more than just one energy company’s help,” said Steven Campbell, who was without power Friday.
