New Orleans City Council votes to revoke Krewe of Nyx’s Mardi Gras parade permit
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans City Council has decided not to grant a parade permit to the Mystic Krewe of Nyx for 2025.
The ordinance was discussed in the city council meeting on Thursday, May 16. Councilmembers first introduced the matter of deciding if the krewe should ultimately be removed from the parade permit list on May 2.

The ordinance passed with a unanimous vote.
There have been years of controversies surrounding the krewe after Captian and Founder Julie Lea faced accusations of racism following a post to her social media that read “All Lives Matter” in the midst of the “Black Lives Matter” movement.
She has since apologized for her actions.
In 2020, Nyx members protested throwing away club merchandise calling for Lea to step down as leader.
Several members of the krewe, who have denounced membership, also filed a lawsuit against Lea, demanding a refund in club dues.
