New Orleans ToolBank, Home Depot build park benches and picnic tables for veterans
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A nonprofit organization called the New Orleans ToolBank is working to help local veterans. The organization is providing tools and supplies for volunteers to build picnic tables and park benches for local veteran organizations like the Bastion Living Community.
“The New Orleans ToolBank is a nonprofit that provides tools and expertise to other nonprofits. Think of it as the nonprofit big box tool department,” said Site Director for the New Orleans ToolBank David Melancon.

The organization has over 4,000 pieces in its 2,700-square-foot warehouse, with over 175 different tools.
“These will help add to their veteran community. Bastion is five acres. So, these will be able to help create more of a community and friendly setting,” said Melancon.

The New Orleans ToolBank, in conjunction with ToolBank Disaster Services, will host 40 Team Depot volunteers at its warehouse. Team Depot is part of The Home Depot Foundation, which works to improve the homes and lives of U.S. veterans.
On Thursday, they’ll be building 20 park benches and 20 picnic tables.
“Actually, making change one neighborhood at a time in our city,” said Melancon.
