OSHP investigates small plane crash in Ottawa County
PORTAGE TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WJW) — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating after a small airplane crashed in Ottawa County Friday afternoon.
The crash happened just after 1:30 p.m. at the Erie-Ottawa International Airport in Portage Township, about three miles east of Port Clinton.
The pilot, a 49-year-old Indiana man, was flying a 1990 Mooney M20J.

According to investigators, the pilot failed to lower his landing gear as he was descending onto the runway. The underside of the plane hit the runway and slid before stopping, state troopers say.
The pilot wasn’t injured.
Investigators don’t believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation at this time.
