Over 1 million people try to snag free tickets to Macy’s 4th of July fireworks
NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – Over 1 million people tried to grab free tickets to the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks show, according to a spokesperson for Mayor Eric Adams’ office.
The massive demand caused sales to stop a day after the city opened 10,000 free front-row tickets to the show at Hudson River Park’s Pier 45 and Pier 84 in Manhattan.

The website where tickets were being offered crashed on Wednesday and displayed that all tickets were sold out. Soon after, the website updated to display a message that reads, “Thank you for your interest. The next batch of tickets will be available tomorrow.”
The website will display more tickets on Thursday at 10 a.m., officials said.
You don’t have to get a ticket to see the fireworks show – it’s free and open to the public.
Some New York City businesses will sell tickets to view the fireworks with a smaller crowd and other features, like cocktails and DJs, but the tickets can be well over $100 to secure. Some places hosting viewing parties include the Gansevoort hotel and Verano.
Macy’s itself does not sell any tickets to VIP viewing locations or parties.
The fireworks will kick off around 9:25 p.m. on July 4, including over 30 colors and “never before seen effects.” The fireworks will be fired from five spots between West 14th Street and West 34th Street on the Hudson River, reaching 1,000 feet in the air, according to representatives of Macy’s.
