Owen County: commissioner re-elected and coroner candidate not in race gets 4,937 votes
Republican Owen County Commissioner Gary Burton was elected to a second term Tuesday, getting 58% of votes cast in the race.
He got 3,201 votes. Democratic challenger Sandra Wood got 2,319. Libertarian Chad VanRyn received 605 votes.
The woman seeking re-election as county coroner got 100% of the vote even though she withdrew from the race last month. Republican Angela Frank was running unopposed, but her resignation this fall came too late to take her name off the ballot.
Even though Frank was not a candidate, 4,937 people voted for her in Tuesday's election.
Owen County's lone elected Democrat, Anton Neff, was re-elected to another term on the Owen County Council. He represents District 2. He won with 60% of the vote.
Neff got 1,103 votes; 750 people voted for his Republican opponent, Gary DuBois.
In Owen Council District 4, Republican incumbent Verl Keith retained his seat with an overwhelming 78% of votes cast. He got 1,237 and Libertarian challenger Rachel Combs received 348 votes.
Owen County Clerk Peggy Robertson said Wednesday the county's Republican leadership will hold a caucus before the end of the year to appoint a new coroner. She said a deputy coroner has taken over Frank's duties for now.
In uncontested county races, the following Republicans won in Owen County Tuesday: Donald R. VanDerMoere II, prosecutor; Diane Stutsman, clerk; Loretta Foster, recorder; Shelly Townsend, treasurer; Ryan White, sheriff; Amy Meier, surveyor; Dusty White, assessor; Nick Robertson, county council District 1 and Steve Carrell, county council district 3.
Owen County has eight vote centers where citizens can cast ballots; six churches, a community center and a rural fire station. They don't have to vote in their precinct like in neighboring Monroe County.
