Pacific Power cuts 2025 rate hike proposal with ‘significant reduction’

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – After submitting a proposal for a whopping 17.9% rate hike for 2025 earlier this year, Pacific Power has since cut back on their request.

On July 26, the utility company filed a new proposal asking for an 11.9% increase, which the company called a “significant reduction relative to the original rate request.”

Meanwhile, the overall proposal for residential customers would move to a 14.9% increase, meaning the average residential customer could see a monthly increase of $21.49.

Pacific Power said the rate hike – if approved – would cover costs as “hotter, drier summers and freezing winter storms have become more frequent and intense.”

The proposal comes as Portland General Electric recently submitted a request that upped their rate from 7.4% to 10.9%, according to a filing with the Oregon Public Utility Commission (PUC).

The new request, if accepted by the PUC, would make the total amount of PGE increases from the past four years equal more than 40% combined.
