Palace Confirms King Charles Is Set to Depart From Tradition at Upcoming Trooping the Colour Event

Buckingham Palace has released an update for King Charles as he prepares to appear at the upcoming Trooping the Colour event.

It has been confirmed that the monarch will be in attendance, however will be riding via carriage as opposed to the traditional method of on horseback.

The 75-year-old, who announced his unspecified cancer diagnosis early this year and has been receiving treatment since February, will inspect the soldiers from an Ascot landau carriage with his wife Queen Camilla by his side.

Last year, King Charles also set a precedent when he became the first monarch to ride horseback at the event since his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, in 1986.

Trooping the Colour, the King's annual birthday parade, is set to take place in London on June 15.

Princess of Wales Kate Middleton, however, will not be in attendance at the rehearsal a few days prior, as she remains in recovery from undergoing "preventative chemotherapy" treatment for her own cancer. Lieutenant General James Bucknall, KCB, CBE, will carry out the role of Inspecting Officer on behalf of the princess in her absence at the Colonel's Review on June 8, according to Hello.

It is unclear whether Princess Kate and husband Prince William or their three children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, will be present for the official parade's festivities.

The news of King Charles opting to ride in a carriage vs. on horseback for the event comes on the heels of him ruffling a few feathers as he changed a 200-year-old tradition of offering free admission to Windsor Castle for local residents, instead, implementing a discounted fee for entry.
