Pallas' cat kittens born at Columbus Zoo and Aquarium
There are some new critters at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, and this time they aren't elephants.
A litter of Pallas' cat kittens were born to parents Tiina and Moose on July 3, according to a zoo Facebook post.
Pallas' cats are small, fluffy and about the size of a domestic house cat. Unlike house cats, they have flat heads and short ears, used to keep a low profile while stalking prey. They're named after Peter Simon Pallas, who first described the species in 1776, according to the Columbus Zoo's website.
The new litter is female Tiina and male Moose's second. The kittens won't be viewable by the public for six weeks, but in the meantime, they'll be receiving "love, care, and attention" from the zoo's Asia Quest staff, according to the post.
Pallas' cats are considered a species of least concern by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, meaning they are still plentiful in the wild.
