Incumbent Rob Medina tops 3 challengers in Palm Bay mayoral race to retain seat
Palm Bay Mayor Rob Medina bested a trio of challengers in Tuesday's primary election, retaining his seat by nabbing 55.33 percent of the vote.
The mayoral race pitted Medina against Edith Rivera, a retired real estate broker associate; Tatiana Rosado, an aerospace and defense procurement manager; and Santa Isabel Wright, who is self-employed. Rosado came in behind Medina with 23.37 percent of the total 17,331 votes cast.
Palm Bay is Brevard County's biggest city, boasting a population of 136,059 residents as of last October based on residential electric meter counts. The city sprawls across roughly 88 square miles.
No runoff after Medina's strong showing
Medina's win, with 55.3 percent of the primary vote, means that there'll be no runoff, as a candidate in the four-way competition securing more than 50% of the vote wins the mayoral race.
The Palm Bay City Council Seat 2 and 3 races are also on the primary ballot. Last week, council members appointed Philip Weinberg to temporarily fill the Seat 3 vacancy until the winning candidate takes the oath of office in November. He replaced Randy Foster, who resigned in June for health reasons.
Palm Bay's mayor earns $25,443 per year. The office carries a four-year term.

With 14 of 14 precincts reporting, here are the vote totals:
Medina: 9,590 (55.33 percent)
Rivera: 2,032 (11.72 percent)
Rosado: 4,051 (23.37 percent)
Wright: 1,658 (9.57 percent)
