Parents turn teen in for bringing gun to Hammond school, Tangipahoa Parish sheriff reports

HAMMOND, La. (WGNO) — A Hammond teen was arrested on Monday after his parents reportedly turned him in for bringing a gun to school.

According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, School Resource Officers at Hammond Magnet High were alerted on Saturday to a video on social media that showed a 16-year-old in a classroom with a gun in his school bag.

An investigation confirmed the location where the video was taken, and efforts were immediately underway to identify the student.

On Aug. 19, TPSO deputies said the teen was turned in to the sheriff’s office by his parents. He was subsequently booked into the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center on one count of possession of a weapon while on school property.
