PCSO: Pedestrian killed in early morning crash in Auburndale
A pedestrian died early Sunday morning after being struck by a vehicle along K-Ville Avenue in Auburndale, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Charna Gilbert was driving east on K-Ville Avenue near Old Dixie Highway about 1:40 a.m. in a 2001 blue Lincoln Nautilus when her vehicle hit something dark along the roadway, PCSO said in a news release. Gilbert immediately stopped and called 911 after being unable to find what her car had struck, PCSO said.

When first responders arrived, they searched and found the body of a man who was wearing all dark clothing and appeared to have been walking on the south side of the road, the release said. He had severe head trauma and was declared dead at the scene.
After notifying the next of kin, PCSO identified the man as Lorenzo Thompson, 64, of Auburndale.
Gilbert was evaluated and showed no signs of impairment, PCSO said. The investigation is ongoing.
