Pennsylvania House Speaker says Josh Shapiro should be picked for Vice President
(WHTM) – Pennsylvania Speaker of the House Joanna McClinton says Governor Josh Shapiro should be tapped to run for Vice President alongside Kamala Harris.
McClinton (D-Philadelphia) told the Philadelphia Inquirer she “definitely” thinks Harris should pick Shapiro as her running mate after President Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race and endorsed Harris on Sunday.
Josh Shapiro calls Biden a ‘patriot who served our country honorably’ amid Vice President rumors
McClinton reiterated her support of a Shapiro candidacy on X posting “HarrisShapiro2024 ?????????????” on Sunday night. House Appropriations Chair Jordan Harris (D-Philadelphia) followed up on Monday morning posting “I agree with (McClinton)” on X.
Shapiro has quickly become a hot name among the potential options to serve as Harris’ running mate. The first-term Governor was quick to endorse Harris on Sunday and became one of the first names brought up in the national media. He was among the most-searched names on Google Sunday afternoon and said earlier this week that he and Harris have been “friends for 20 years” adding “She’s an outstanding Vice President.”
Muhlenberg’s Spring 2024 survey found Shapiro with a 64% approval rating in his first term as Governor, something that could help entice Democrats with the hopes of picking up Pennsylvania’s 19 electoral votes in November.
