Pennsylvania man sentenced for murder of girlfriend

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A McKean County man was sentenced to 18 to 36 years plus one year of consecutive reentry supervision for causing the 2021 death of his girlfriend, the McKean County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Anthony Fenton of Bradford, PA was convicted by a jury of third-degree murder in June for killing his long-term girlfriend Tammy Prosser.

According to officials, Prosser was found unresponsive on May 10, 2021 in an apartment above a Bradford business that she shared with Fenton. Police noticed severe swelling to her head and neck and significant bruising on her chest.

Prosser was treated on scene, transported to BRMC, then transported to ECMC in Buffalo where she was pronounced deceased.

Fenton said that Prosser had fallen down the stairs and ruptured a tumor on her head. He claimed that bite marks on her body were due to “rough sex.”

Fenton said that the pair went to Top’s after she fell to buy beer. The cashier waiting on them said Prosser did not appear to have any injuries and was walking fine, according to the district attorney’s office.

A DNA expert testified that Fenton’s DNA was on the bite marks, under Prosser’s nails, and on her clothes, and her DNA was on the toe of Fenton’s boot. Officials say patterns observed in her bruising were described by many witnesses as “numerous lines and arrows.”

An autopsy ruled her death a homicide.

Fenton was initially charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, and recklessly endangering another person. He was then charged with criminal homicide and convicted of third-degree murder by a jury when Prosser was pronounced deceased.

Fenton is ordered to have no contact with the victim’s family, pay restitution, including funeral expenses, and other terms. He is not eligible for any early reentry program.
