In ‘Of, By, For the People’ at Sheboygan County Museum, American democracy is viewed through a local lens

SHEBOYGAN – American democracy through the lens of Sheboygan County’s embodiment of the ideal “Of the people, by the people, for the people” is the focus of an exhibit on view at the Sheboygan County Museum.

The temporary exhibit, “Of, By, For the People,” opened in May and runs through Oct. 26 at the museum, 3110 Erie Ave.

A news release from the museum said, “‘Of, By, For the People’ approaches politics through a people-focused lens, examining the concept of people and how they are critical to American democracy.

“A visitor can clearly see how the definition of people expanded, the process of participation changed, and ultimately how the government grew to meet the ever-changing needs of the people and our communities,” the release said.

“This exhibit explores these concepts with over 100 signs, buttons and objects from the museum’s extensive collection, highlighting the unifying concept of service and participation by ordinary people that is at the heart of American democracy.”

The museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 pm. Mondays-Fridays and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.

Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for ages 62 and older, $7 for active military, $5 for ages 6-17, and free for ages 0-5 and museum members.
