Person injured after deputy was involved in shooting in Charles County
CHARLES COUNTY Md. (DC News Now) — The Charles County Sherriff’s Office (CCSO) said a person was injured after a deputy was involved in a shooting on Thursday afternoon.
At around 11:50 a.m., deputies went to a home in 14700 block of Bassford Road in Hughesville after developing information that a suspect, who was wanted for a violent assault and stabbing of his elderly relative’s caregiver, was inside, according to CCSO.

Preliminary, CCSO said 28-year-old Patrick Roberts, Jr. was inside the house and when deputies arrived, they started creating a perimeter around it.
CCSO said Roberts came out of the house with “a large knife” and then ran into a wooded area. A K-9 was sent after him off leash and when the K-9 tried to apprehend Roberts, he “enraged the K-9.”
That’s when the K-9 officer took out his gun and shot Roberts in the stomach.

The knife was recovered and Roberts was taken to the hospital injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.
The K-9 was also checked out and was not hurt.
The deputy involved in the shooting was placed on administrative leave, per the sheriff’s office’s policy.
The shooting was still being investigated.
