Police: 72-year-old man who died in Somers fire Monday is identified
SOMERS - State police on Wednesday identified the man who died in a fire Monday in the town of Somers.
Richard Jordan, 72, was the only person in the house on Barlow Court at the time of the fire.
According to a news release issued by the Somers Volunteer Fire Department, smoke from the two-story wood frame house was already visible from a distance when the first firefighters were dispatched to the scene shortly before 9:30 a.m.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the section of the building where it began, allowing firefighters from the Somers and Yorktown departments to search the rest of the building for people. However, they were unable to search the room where the blaze began due to heavy fire conditions there.

No firefighters were hurt. Firefighters were on the scene until 4 p.m.
The cause of the fire has not been determined yet. State police said the investigation into the fire is continuing, but no evidence of suspicious activity has been found at this time.
