Police: These 9 Elyria businesses were caught selling alcohol to minors

ELYRIA, Ohio (WJW) — Police officers using minors to attempt to buy alcohol at several Elyria businesses cited employees from nine stores for selling alcohol to an underage person, according to a news release.
Elyria police over the last two months conducted a series of compliance checks “in response to resident complaints,” police Lt. Bill Lantz said in a release Monday.

Employees at nine stores failed their compliance checks:
Ten to Ten, 308 East Broad St.
Elyria Liquor, 1063 East Broad St.
Sunoco Gas Station, 645 Cleveland St.
Marathon Gas, 503 Huron St.
Valero, 404 East Ave.
Speedway, 710 Griswold Road
Convenient Food Mart, 38535 Chestnut Ridge Road
East River Convenient, 905 East River St.
Abbe Drive Thru Beverages & Wine Shop, 514 Abbe Road N
Employees at another 14 stores, however, passed:
Circle K, 402 East Broad St.
Speedway, 990 East Broad St.
Express Petro Gas, 501 Abbe Road N
Elyria Food Mart, 515 Abbe Road N
D&M Mart, 128 Lake Ave.
Get Go, 559 Midway Blvd.
Shell Gas Station, 905 Lorain Blvd.
Speedway, 895 Lorain Blvd.
Marathon, 803 West River Road N
Certified Oil, 701 Lowell St.
Get Go, 209 East Bridge St.
Sheetz, 38265 Chestnut Ridge Road

Why a popular fast food chain doesn’t serve the item it’s named for
Police informed the state’s alcohol and tobacco enforcer, the Ohio Investigative Unit, of the businesses whose employees were cited. Those businesses may face fines or have their liquor licenses revoked or suspended.
The charge of selling alcohol to an underage person is a first-degree misdemeanor.
