Police identify central Topeka shooting victim

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Police are identifying the victim of a recent shooting that happened in downtown Topeka on Monday.

The Topeka Police Department (TPD) issued a press release on Tuesday, June 25 announcing the identity of the shooting victim as Steven R. Warden, 43, of Topeka. The investigation into his death is ongoing.

The shooting occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Monday, June 24 in the area of SW 13th Street and SW Western Avenue. Officers arriving at the scene found a man, later identified as Warden, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Warden was declared dead at the scene. This is being investigated as the eighth homicide case in Topeka for 2024.
