Valley View Police Chief David Niro tells Fox 8’s Tino Bovenzi that one man was shot and killed on Brecksville Road around noon. The chief said the suspicion that the incident could be related to road rage is too premature.

Early Friday, the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner identified the victim as Christopher Andexler, 41, of Cleveland.

A gray Dodge utility truck was left at the scene with at least eight evidence markers surrounding the vehicle. Both the driver’s side and passenger doors were open.

About five minutes away at 238 Schaff Road a second crime scene was being investigated after a White Nissan Quest minivan burst into flames.

A witness that we spoke to said she first heard a horn blaring and then she saw smoke.

“The car across the street in the driveway there on the hill, like billowing smoke,” said the witness, who does not want to be named. “So, I’m looking at it from it, I’m like, oh, wow, that sucks. I don’t know what happened, you know? But then I see a family getting out of the car, man, woman, baby, toddler, I want to say. And she’s, like, holding a car seat, you know, panic, obviously. They were meandering back and forth.”

That’s when she called 911.

“I’m aghast,” the witness said. “It’s not something that’s obviously typical. It’s a bit shocking. At first, I thought, oh, it’s an accident, something happened. But to know it’s more in-depth is a little more startling.”

Valley View police confirm that two people were detained in relation to that car on fire, and two children are now with child protective services.

Police have not given an on-camera interview as it is still early in the investigation. Niro said there are multiple witness accounts, which they will process to determine what exactly led up to the fatal shooting.
