Police: Suspect arrested for shooting employee at Santa Fe Sonic restaurant

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – A man who was wanted for shooting an employee at a Sonic Drive-in in Santa Fe was arrested on Sunday, according to the Santa Fe Police Department. Police are also looking to get in contact with a person of interest in the shooting.

Mariano Romero, 31, was taken into custody by the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office on an arrest warrant following the July 25 shooting at the fast-food restaurant located at 2861 Cerrillos Road.

The Santa Fe Police Department responded to Sonic after an employee called saying her coworker had been shot in the head. Police arrived on scene and provided aid to the victim until he was taken to the hospital, according to court documents.

Police said the victim took drinks out to a car and was shot in the head. On Aug. 2, investigators were able to identify Romero as the suspect in the shooting. Detectives then obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Romero is facing attempted murder and bribery of a witness charges.

Police are also seeking assistance in locating Savannah Edwards, 26, who is a person of interest in the shooting. Edwards currently has warrants for her arrest unrelated to this investigation.
