Police in Wisconsin reminding the community to stay respectful as the election approaches

WAUSAU, Wis. (WFRV) – With just under three weeks until election night, police in Wisconsin are providing the community with a friendly reminder to stay respectful.

In a post made on social media by the Wausau Police Department, officers say it is important for members of the public to remember that it is illegal to remove or tamper with political campaign signs on yards and private property.

While police state that they find being civic-minded and passionate about issues affecting the community and country admirable, theft and property damage are not admirable.

Officials add that whether someone agrees or disagrees with someone else’s political views, illegally trespassing on private property to remove or damage political signs can result in fines or criminal charges.

Let’s respect each other’s rights to express their opinions, especially during this election season.
