It may not always seem like it, but food safety is a pretty big deal in this country. Companies spend millions of dollars annually to ensure their products are being shipped in a safe manner while free of toxins, allergens and any other unhealthy contaminate or substance. And while the FDA does an excellent job at regulating the system of checks and balances in place for our well-being, mistakes can sometimes be made and problems often slip through the proverbial cracks.

On September 20, HP Hood LLC officially announced a recall of five SKUs of 96-ounce containers of Lactaid Milk due to possible traces of almond being found. Almonds are not listed on the labels of any of the containers in question, and those who have severe sensitivity to them may be at risk of serious allergic reactions if consumed. As of now, no illnesses have been reported, yet HP Hood is acting accordingly to nip the issue in the bud.

Thanks to the food and beverage industries strict rules and regulations, this issue was specifically discovered as a result of routine maintenance programs, which identified the potential trace amounts of almonds. Consumers who purchased the product are encouraged to return it to the retail location you purchased it from for a full refund or exchange.
