Power outage maps: More than 1 million in the dark in SC, NC, Georgia, Florida after Helene
More than 1.5 million homes remained without power Tuesday morning in southeastern states decimated by Hurricane Helene, which has left a death toll of more than 100 people in its wake.
President Joe Biden will get a first-hand look Wednesday at the devastation in Asheville when he visits North Carolina as part of his tour of a region left reeling after enduring the storm's deadly wrath. Asheville is the county seat of Buncombe County, where 40 of the 133 reported deaths so far have been confirmed, according to reporting from the Associated Press.
In western North Carolina, brutal rains have caused houses to float away from subdivisions, bridges to crumble and semi-trucks to become crumpled into mangled piles. This week, the streets of many towns have become consumed with mud, tree branches, and detritus from local stores.
Since Helene made landfall Thursday in Florida's Big Bend region, hundreds of water rescues have taken place across Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee and Virginia
Of those homes and businesses without power as of Tuesday morning, more than half-a-million of them were in South Carolina while nearly half-a-million more were in Georgia, according to a USA TODAY power outage tracker. Hundreds of thousands of residents remained without power Tuesday in North Carolina, while tens of thousands were in the dark in both Florida and Virginia.

Florida power outage tracker
In Florida, 68,845 residents remained without power as of about 7 a.m. Tuesday.
The vast majority of reports continue to be in the northwest part of the state, including Pinellas County, where 21,271 homes were in the dark.
Georgia power outage tracker
Hundreds of thousands of Georgia residents continue to be in the dark as of Tuesday morning, with a total of 499,393 power outages reported.
Richmond County, continues to be the hardest hit, with 74,054 residents without power. In Columbia County 61,405 homes were in the dark, while 44,888 residences in Chatham County and 43,446 residences in Lowndes County were powerless as of Tuesday morning.
South Carolina power outage tracker
As of about 7 a.m. Tuesday, 571,419 homes in South Carolina had no power.
The northwestern part of the state continues to reel the hardest from Helene, with 168,437 homes in Greenville County and another 142,476 in Spartanburg County in the dark.
North Carolina power outage tracker
In North Carolina, 371,615 homes were without power as of about 7 a.m. Tuesday.
That includes 86,042 reported outages in Buncombe County, 54,692 in Henderson County and 27,654 in Rutherford County.
Virginia power outage tracker
Virginia had 76,520 reports of power outages as of Tuesday morning.
The southwest portion of the state was hit hardest by Helene, with 11,962 outages reported in Russell County, 11,502 in Tazewell County and 9,955 in Carroll County.
