President OKs Louisiana request for federal emergency declaration ahead of Hurricane Francine
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The White House has approved the emergency declaration for the State of Louisiana after Gov. Jeff Landry sent a letter to President Biden ahead of Hurricane Francine’s landfall on Wednesday.
“This federal assistance will be pivotal to save lives and property,” said Landry. “As Hurricane Francine approaches Louisiana, I appreciate President Biden quickly approving this request.”
During a Monday press conference, Landry issued a statewide emergency declaration. Landry said the state of emergency will allow parishes to get resources “to help protect the life, safety, and welfare of the citizens of Louisiana.”
The governor’s office said the impact of heavy rain, damaging winds and hurricane-spawn tornadoes will present a serious threat to the lives and property of residents in Louisiana.
