Previewing the Ehasz-Fitzpatrick race for U.S. House
U.S. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa., staved off Democrat Ashley Ehasz two years ago. He'll need a repeat performance in November to secure another term in Pennsylvania's 1st Congressional District.
Fitzpatrick — who serves on the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and Committee on Ways and Means — defeated Ehasz by about 10 points in 2022.
Brian Fitzpatrick (R)
Fitzpatrick, 50, is generally regarded as one of the most centrist of all GOP House members.
Issues:
A supporter of additional background checks on gun sales, Fitzpatrick also voted with just two fellow Republicans for the Equality Act, which would extend civil rights protections based upon gender identity and sexual orientation.
Fitzpatrick has supported a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution designed to curb federal spending.
Ashley Ehasz (D)
Early this cycle, Ehasz, 35, saw her fundraising surpass totals from her entire campaign two years ago. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has thrown its weight behind her efforts, labeling Fitzpatrick among the GOP's most vulnerable in Washington, D.C.
Issues:
Ehasz has said she'll support incentives for additional green energy initiatives.
She's also pledged to work on broader anti-discrimination laws, including expanding and enforcing Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.
