U.S. Rep. Lloyd Smucker, R-Pa., hasn't won by less than double-digit percentage points since first running for Congress in 2012. That's not stopped Democrat Jim Atkinson from mounting a challenge to Smucker this year.

Smucker, 60, represents Pennsylvania's 11th Congressional District, where Republicans significantly outnumber Democrats.

Lloyd Smucker (R)

In Congress, Smucker serves on the deeply influential Committee on Ways and Means. His additional committees are the Committee on Education and the Workforce, Committee on the Budget and the Joint Economic Committee.

Issues:

  • Smucker has called for the Biden administration to end its pause on liquid natural gas exports.

  • He's also advocated for an extension of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, touting as a pro-growth policy that's allowed small businesses to be more competitive with corporations.

Jim Atkinson (D)

Atkinson is a career airline pilot.

Issues:

  • On his website, Atkinson lists social justice and preserving American democracy among his chief concerns.

  • He also mentions combatting climate change as a priority.
