Project Back to School Roundup draws large crowd
The MPEC hosted Project Back to School Roundup Saturday for Wichita Falls ISD students and City View ISD students.
Hundreds of families were lined up outside the MPEC waiting for the start of the event. Dr. Donny Lee, Wichita Falls ISD superintendent, waited inside to greet all families as they entered the Ray Clymer Exhibit Hall.
"We've had a great turnout," Lillian Harris, Project Back to School coordinator, said. "We always have a big surge of people here at the beginning of the day, and then it'll die down. But we always expect another surge of people to come later."
To receive a free backpack and school supplies, the student must qualify for the free and reduced-price school lunch program.
Inside the exhibit hall families would find their school's table and check-in. After this, students could pick out a free backpack of their choice at any one of the several tables. A complete school supply kit was also given to the students.
Once the kids received their free school supplies, they could walk to the other side of the exhibit hall where free immunizations, dental checkups and more were available.
