BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Baton Rouge’s mayor wants to hear from the public about proposed plans for a new River Center and hotel.

Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome released a proposed plan Friday for the project after the Metro Council approved an ordinance directing her to identify development strategies on March 13.

The proposal is now available for public viewing. Broome asked the public to review and give feedback by emailing [email protected] and their Metro Council representative.

According to the proposal, renovations are estimated to cost $120 million and include building a headquarters hotel.

A City-Commissioned Feasibility and Planning Study cited in the proposal said, “A new Headquarters Hotel could also help attract smaller group events to the market and would create an enhanced experience for major concert and entertainment event patrons.”

Proposal documents outline the next steps like creating an oversight committee for the project including key stakeholders, council members and different groups like the Baton Rouge Area Chamber, Build Baton Rouge, Downtown Development District and Visit Baton Rouge. Documents said a project manager team would assist the Metro Council and oversight committee.
