Public hearing set for new concert venue proposed at Portland’s Lloyd Center

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Newly filed permitting documents reveal the next steps and details for a new music venue coming to the Lloyd Center.

Last month, Monqui Presents — the Pacific Northwest concert promoter affiliated with venues including Doug Fir Lounge and McMenamins Grand Lodge — announced it had partnered with global brand AEG Presents to open a new space.

“This is a project we’ve been working on with Don and the AEG Presents team for about ten years now — we have a great site, excellent design, and most importantly a shared vision in making the audience and artist experience a truly great one, “Monqui Presents Co-owner Mike Quinn said in a statement in July. “We are extremely fortunate and excited about this partnership and thrilled to bring this venue to Portland.”

The 68,000-square-foot venue will be located on Northeast 9th Avenue and Multnomah Street, which previously held luxury department store Nordstrom before its closing in 2015.

According to a document filed with Portland’s Permitting & Development Bureau Monday, the companies behind the proposal plan to demolish the building and remove the skybridge on Northeast Ninth Avenue.

The site will still hold the public plaza on Multnomah Street, as well as the basement. The main floor will feature the primary event space, while the second floor will hold mezzanine seating. The flexible venue’s capacity will range from 2,000 to 4,250 concertgoers.

Portland’s Design Commission is tentatively scheduled to host a public hearing on the proposal on Sept. 19 at 1:30 p.m. Residents and local agencies must submit their feedback to [email protected] by Sept. 5.

An additional music venue is expected to open in the Central Eastside District in the coming years. Earlier in June, the permitting bureau recommended that city officials approve development on Southeast Water Avenue between Salmon Street and Main Street.

Meanwhile, the Doug Fir Lounge is slated to relocate to 301 Southeast Morrison Street by summer 2025.
