Pueblo West man arrested for alleged assault on sheriff's deputies at Colorado State Fair

A Pueblo West man was arrested on suspicion of several charges including assault on a peace officer after he allegedly assaulted three Pueblo County sheriff's deputies Sept. 1.

Tyler C. Hargis, 25, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of second-degree assault on a peace officer, third-degree assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct, according to a Sept. 4 news release from the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies providing security for the Colorado State Fair responded to a report of a fight at approximately 8:35 p.m. Saturday at the Southwest Motors Event Center.

When deputies arrived, they found two men on the ground fighting. One deputy was attempting to restrain one of the men, identified at the scene as Hargis, when Hargis allegedly punched him in the face, according to the PCSO's release.

Another deputy arrived on the scene and while both deputies attempted to put Hargis in hand restraints, he allegedly kicked and punched both of them. Hargis continued to resist and kick at deputies even after they managed to put him in hand restraints, according to the PCSO.

At that point, Hargis was shocked with a stun gun, and deputies were able to get him to comply, PCSO officials said. However, as he was being transported to the hospital for routine clearance, Hargis allegedly began resisting again and spat on a deputy, according to the release.

Deputies were eventually able to get Hargis to comply with orders, and after being medically cleared, Hargis was booked into Pueblo County jail.

Hargis was given a $7,500 cash, surety or property bond and bonded out on Sept. 1, according to arrest reports. He is scheduled for a formal first appearance in the court of Judge Amiel Markenson on Sept. 5.
