Quincy College graduates first bachelor's degree students: 'We are so very proud of you'
QUINCY ? Graduates of Quincy College were encouraged to use the skills and knowledge they've learned to further their education, solve the world's problems and accomplish personal goals Friday at their commencement ceremony.
The school celebrated its 352 graduates at a ceremony at Veterans Memorial Stadium, where Massachusetts Life Sciences Center CEO Kenneth Turner served as keynote speaker. He encouraged the new graduates in certificate, associate and bachelor's degree programs to to be adaptable, seize chances as they come along and be confident in their own individuality.
"The shortest distance between planning and the execution is rarely a straight line," He said. "More often, success travels a very winding and crooked road."

That was true for student speaker Michelle Alongi, who returned to Quincy College later in life after spending 20 years in the working world and testing out several career paths. She came to the school for a certificate in exercise science, but ultimately graduated with a degree.
"I began as a chaotic, disorganized student who was likely the same age as my professors and definitely older than my advisers," she said with a laugh. "Take chances, step out of your comfort zone, overcome adversity and follow your dreams."
The Quincy College Class of 2023 graduated the school's first bachelor's degree students. Julius Jonassaint, Zachary Milas and Jasmatie Persaud graduated with degrees in business management.
"Be proud of your discipline, your efforts and your accomplishments. ... We are so very proud of you," Quincy College President Richard DeCristofaro said. "As your journey continues, you will be introduced to new opportunities with unlimited possibilities. ... You have built a foundation as strong as Quincy granite."
