R. Kelly's birthday celebration at a Chicago nightclub interrupted by police
R. Kelly's birthday celebration at a Chicago nightclub was interrupted by police amid growing backlash over the shocking allegations made against the R&B singer in Lifetime's "Surviving R. Kelly" docu-series.
An unbothered Kelly partied at Chicago's V75 Lounge Wednesday night in celebration of his 52nd birthday on Jan. 8. At the nightclub, the controversial singer belted out an a cappella rendition of his 1994 hit "Bump n' Grind," as fans sang along and recorded Kelly.
Dressed in sunglasses and a red baseball cap, the "I Believe I Can Fly" singer then exclaimed to the crowd during an NSFW message that it was his birthday and he was not concerned with the controversy that surrounds him.

The Chicago Police Department confirmed to USA TODAY that officers were called to the area of the nightclub at 1 a.m. early Thursday over reports of a "person wanted."
People and CNN report that officers "made contact" with Kelly and determined there was no warrant out for his arrest after running the singer's information through their system.
"No arrests were made," Officer Steve Rusanov of the Chicago police confirmed to USA TODAY.
Kelly's appearance comes just days after "Surviving R. Kelly" highlighted decades of sexual misconduct allegations against the artist. Kelly has denied all the allegations.
Many fans and celebrities have denounced Kelly following six hours of footage broadcast over three nights, including Jada Pinkett Smith, Chance the Rapper and John Legend. Most recently, Lady Gaga apologized for "poor judgment" over her collaboration with Kelly and vowed to pull the song "Do What U Want" from streaming platforms.
USA TODAY has reached out the Kelly's rep for comment.
