Rapper Noname Announces Tracklist For Upcoming Album
Rapper Noname has just released the tracklist and release date for her upcoming album, “Sundial.” The album is set to be released August 11 although the release date was initially set for July. The tracklist sees features from Common, billy woods, Eryn Allen Kane, Jay Electronica, Ayoni and others. “Sundial” is a follow up to her last album “Room 25” which she released in 2018. According to Rolling Stone, it will be her first album in five years.
A Conscious Rapper
Noname is known for her dexterous rap style peppered with image-driven narratives and catchy hooks. She has grown to become a socio-politically conscious rapper. She has criticized and regularly criticizes capitalism, anti-Blackness, police brutality, imperialism and everything else at the intersection of marginalization against Black people.
Noname notably runs the Noname Book Club which encourages members to read works that discuss and confront inequities. She also regularly facilitates reading programs for the incarcerated. In 2021, Noname told Rolling Stone she was making progress on her next project which she called Factory Baby at the time sharing that it would be more “radical, more informative, and solution-oriented.”
For her upcoming release, Noname had initially planned to release a lead single called “Balloon” featuring Jay Electronica whose history of supporting the Nation of Islam garnered backlash, forcing Noname to walk back her plans. Now, she plans on releasing the album without any lead singles.
“album Sundial will drop august 11th. i was going to release the single balloons tomorrow but i’d rather share it with the rest of the album. see v’all in a few weeks :)” she wrote in the caption of her post on Instagram.
