Recovery efforts underway for St. James Parish following Hurricane Francine
ST. JAMES PARISH, La. (WGNO) — St. James Parish officials are conducting assessments in the aftermath of Hurricane Francine, which hit Southeast Louisiana on Wednesday, Sept. 11, as a category 2 hurricane.
Overnight crews switched out Thursday morning to begin assessments of residential damage at 7 a.m.

Parish officials report the winds are currently forecasted as blowing 10 to 15 mph from the west and is pushing the water away from residents and back to the lake. Additionally, the coastal reference gauge at the mouth of Blind River reached 4.51 feet but is falling and stands at 2.3 feet.
All pumps operated throughout the night and will continue in the days following, according to parish officials.

It was reported that at 6 a.m., Highway 20 near the Bayou Cheverille bridge, River Road by Manresa, Nicole Street and Airline Drive were impassable due to high water.
Airline Highway is open along with both bridges and all major highways.
Shelters will remain open and transit services will operate only for emergency transportation to shelters.
Residents are asked to bring vegetative debris to the West Bank Landfill and to sort all curbside debris by parish guidelines.
Officials with Waste Management announced that garbage collection will resume for customers in St. James Parish on Thursday, Sept. 12. They said garbage for residential customers will be collected on their regular schedule and commercial customers will follow a one day behind schedule.
