Repair work begins after boat hits Bayou Grosse Tete Bridge
IBERVILLE PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) — The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced that repair work is now underway for the Bayou Grosse Tete Bridge after it was hit by a boat on Thursday, June 6.
According to the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office, the bridge was left with “significant damage” after it was hit around 5:30 a.m. by “a tugboat with barges.”
DOTD said that a preconstruction meeting was held on Friday, June 14, followed by the issuance of a notice to proceed on Saturday, June 15.
According to DOTD, the contractor of the repair process deployed a work barge to the site and is currently working on taking out all mechanical equipment and hydraulic lines from the pier. Following the removal of the equipment, the contractor will aim to repair the pier, which is expected to finish in four to six months.

This phase of the repair process to the bridge is expected to be completed by Friday, June 28.
The bridge remains closed to car traffic until further notice. However, a pedestrian ferry is available. Pedestrian ferry hours are from 5-9 a.m. and 3-8 p.m. seven days a week.
