Republican pollster says: I have never seen a candidate more determined to blow an election (than Trump)
A top Republican pollster says he has never seen a candidate more determined to “blow” an election than Donald Trump.
Frank Luntz, a pollster and GOP strategist for the likes of ex-New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, posted on social media on Saturday to take the shot at the Republican nominee.
“I have never seen a candidate more determined to blow an election,” Lutz wrote in response to Trump’s promise to imprison his political opponents.
“Instead of talking about affordability and immigration security (the top public issues), Trump is once again screaming about prosecuting his opponents.
“Message to Donald: Focus on helping voters, not yourself,” Lutz concluded.
The pollster’s statement was in response to an unhinged comment by the Republican nominee for president on his Truth Social platform on Saturday night. Trump went on a rant about election interference and, again, accused Democrats of cheating in 2020 without any proof.
“Therefore, the 2024 Election, where Votes have just started being cast, will be under the closest professional scrutiny and, WHEN I WIN, those people that CHEATED will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law, which will include long term prison sentences so that this Depravity of Justice does not happen again. We cannot let our Country further devolve into a Third World Nation, AND WE WON’T! Please beware that this legal exposure extends to Lawyers, Political Operatives, Donors, Illegal Voters, & Corrupt Election Officials. Those involved in unscrupulous behavior will be sought out, caught, and prosecuted at levels, unfortunately, never seen before in our Country.”
The post was the latest from Trump claiming that he will be cheated out of the election - before the vast majority of ballots have even been cast.
Earlier this month, the Republican Mayor of Mesa, Arizona, John Giles warned that if Trump loses, he and his allies will try all tactics to create doubts over the results.
“They’ll claim everything went wrong if they lose. I’d be surprised if Trump doesn’t try to foment insurrection if he loses the election,” the mayor said.
Other experts have warned that the MAGA loyalists are trying to raise doubts over the election, two months before it’s called.
David Becker at the Center for Election Innovation and Research told The Guardian that “a lot of false claims are masquerading as efforts to change policy to improve election integrity when in actuality they’re just designed to sow distrust in our system if Trump loses.”
“This is all designed to manufacture claims that if Trump loses, the election was stolen and to sow discord, chaos and potential violence,” he added.
