Restaurant offering chicken, fish takes over former Chef’s location in Ascension Parish

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A family-style restaurant recently opened its fourth location in Louisiana.

Leader’s Fried Chicken opened their latest location in August at 105 W. 10th St., Donaldsonville.

The owners are Logan Boudreaux and August Gonzales. Boudreaux said Leader’s Fried Chicken opened in 1976 and they bought the business in July 2022. Boudreaux said the restaurant was named after Newton Leader, who started the company.

He said in Donaldsonville, they “took occupancy in the building during the summer of 2024.” They took over the building which used to contain Chef’s. It has been there for over 50 years, Boudreaux said.

“Chef’s was adored by the Donaldsonville community and we have big shoes to fill,” he said.

The restaurant offers dine-in and take-out for customers.

Before opening the Donaldsonville location, they operated locations in St. Amant and Gonzales. They opened a third location in Maurepas in November, Boudreaux said.

The St. Amant location is at 44014 Hwy. 431 while the restaurant in Gonzales is located at 203 W. Cornerview Road. The Maurepas location is at 18897 Hwy 22.

Their hours of operation for all four locations are Monday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The Maurepas location is also open on Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
